Dr. Wallace Hinson, conductor
Wallace Hinson, artistic director and conductor of the Lanier Chamber Singers, is Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music at Piedmont College where he conducts the Piedmont College Chamber Singers, teaches conducting, and is director and tenor/baritone in the 10-voice group Cantabile. He received the Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of Central Arkansas, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting and Literature from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Hinson has studied choral conducting with John Erwin and Don V Moses and orchestral conducting with Paul Vermel. Under his direction, the Piedmont Chamber Singers have performed twice for the Georgia Music Educators Association Conference and on the heralded Spivey Hall Concert Series. Hinson has conducted regional and state-level honor choruses in Arkansas, Louisiana, Illinois, and Georgia, and has guest conducted the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra and the Atlanta Singers, the latter with which he recorded the critically-acclaimed CD Deep River. A life-long church musician, he is Director of Music at the historic Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church in Clarkesville, Georgia. He is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Chorus America, Conductors Guild, College Music Society, and Music Educators National Conference.
